PORT TOWNSEND RESIDENCE
Port Townsend, Washington

On the North Eastern extremity of the Olympic Peninsular on Puget Sound, Oshatz’ latest house was recently completed. Port Townsend, a seaside town with a population of just under 10,000 people has a strong maritime heritage and is intrinsically connected to the sound. The residence grows out of the hillside with views looking over the town and spanning the sound, with its emerald islands and rolling mist, and extend southwestward towards the spectacular Olympic mountains. To the South-East Mount Rainier appears as a shimmering white silhouette above the horizon

The house comprises 3 bedrooms, a large external deck from which to engage with the magnificent Puget Sound, a number of internal living spaces, and a long internal lap pool. The main living space is located on the upper floor under a sweeping curved timber lined roof which is connected to the ground via sparsely located columns which give the effect of a floating, swooping form.

The house is constructed from a combination of concrete, steel and timber framing and includes uniquely textured concrete off-form walls and endless glass.
